How to Perform Heat Fusion on PPR Pipes

PP-R pipes, also known as polypropylene random copolymer pipes or PPR pipes, boast advantages such as energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, lightweight yet high strength, corrosion resistance, smooth internal surface preventing scaling, easy installation and maintenance, and long service life. They find wide applications in various sectors including building water supply and drainage, urban and rural water supply and drainage, urban gas supply, power and cable sheathing, industrial fluid transportation, and agricultural irrigation.

1. Before construction, inspect each pipe for any damage at both ends to prevent potential harm caused during transportation. If any damage or uncertainty exists, trim the ends by 4-5cm during pipe installation. Avoid striking the pipes with hammers or heavy objects to prevent bursting and extend the lifespan.

2. Pipe-to-pipe and pipe-to-fitting connections should be performed using heat fusion methods. Direct threading onto pipes or fittings is not allowed. Flange connections can be used with metal pipes, while fittings with metal inserts must be used for water appliances.

3. Cutting PPR pipes should be done to ensure the end face is perpendicular to the pipe axis, using dedicated pipe cutters. Power on the machine, connect the power supply (ensure it has grounding protection), and when the green indicator light is on and the red indicator light is off, it indicates that the fusion machine has entered automatic control state and is ready for operation. During automatic temperature control, the red and green lights will alternately illuminate, indicating the controlled state, which does not affect operation.

4. Heating: Insert the pipe end into the heating die sleeve without rotation until it reaches the marked depth. Simultaneously, non-rotatingly push the fitting onto the heating die head until it reaches the specified mark.

5. Once the heating time is reached, promptly remove both the PPR pipe and fitting from the heating die simultaneously. Quickly and non-rotatingly insert them into the preheated depth, creating a uniform flange at the joint, and control the rebound after insertion.

Precautions:

1. Install the fusion machine securely and attach the heating end. Place the fusion machine on a rack, install the corresponding heating dies according to the required pipe specifications, and tighten them with hex keys, typically smaller at the front end.

2. Reliable heat fusion equipment must be used for fusion welding to ensure the welding quality.

3. Use specialized scissors for vertical cutting of pipes, ensuring a smooth, burr-free cut.

4. Clean the welding parts of the pipes and fittings thoroughly, removing oil, impurities, and burrs from the pipe surface.

5. Mark the fusion depth on the pipe with a pencil.

6. Insert the pipes and fittings into the fusion machine and heat for the specified time.

7. After heating, remove the pipes and fittings, connect them immediately, and if the positions are not aligned correctly, make slight adjustments within a certain time, but do not exceed a rotation angle of 5°.

8. After completion, firmly grip the pipe and fitting with both hands, allow sufficient cooling time, release the hands when cooled to a certain degree, and then arrange the next segment of the pipe.

PP-R pipes adopt the heat fusion connection method, and the connection between pipes and fittings can only be used once. Therefore, when concealed installation of water supply branches in walls, accurate cutting is required based on planning requirements and specific site conditions. If the pipes are buried underground, attention should be paid to minimizing the interfaces in the buried section. Before welding the pipes, carefully clean the pipes and inspect their surfaces, removing oil, impurities, and burrs. Pay attention to the appropriate length of pipe insertion into the fittings, and the joint should form a symmetrical flange after connection. If it is asymmetrical, indicating poor fusion, it may be difficult to ensure that the joint does not leak. In this case, timely reconnection is necessary.

The fusion of PPR pipes requires the adoption of heat fusion methods. Without proper heat fusion operation techniques, even with high-quality pipes, it is challenging to guarantee the quality of pipeline installation. To ensure the quality of the connection, it is necessary to use heat fusion equipment matched by the manufacturer, and strictly follow the operation regulations for heating time and temperature.
